Abstract
Ionic hydration numbers in the interfoliar water contained between V2O5 xerogel ribbons have been determined from the thermal behaviour of the intercalated compounds Mn+ x(H2O)y(V2O5)0.3–0.4. An empirical relationship between the ionic hydration numbers and the field strengths Z/r of the ions has been established. The results are analogous to the corresponding data reported in the chemical literature. The cations are found to have a similar behaviour in the non-freezing interfoliar water inserted between V2O5 xerogel ribbons and in the free liquid water. Keywords
