The Effect of Vitamin A on Experimental Immune Thyroiditis

Abstract
Experimental immune thyroiditis in guinea pigs, delayed hypersensitivity and antibody formation to thyroid extract were suppressed by chronic hypervitaminosis A. Oil suspended vitamin A proved to be more effective than water suspended vitamin A. Thyroid glands of non-immunized guinea pigs showed morphological changes induced by vitamin A similar to an immune thyroiditis. The possible mechanism of action of vitamin A in the immune response is discussed.
