Abstract
The hypothesis of a heavy-quark-antiquark meson (orthocharmonium) for the 3.1-GeV resonance leads, in the context of a general peripheral model, to predictions for the cross sections (and their energy dependence) for production. The dependence is predicted to be quite different from that of the pion. At higher energies, charmed particles are expected to be produced in conjuction with each . Related problems are discussed.
