Unitarity Relation for the Optical Potential

It is shown that the impulse approximation of Watson satisfies many-body unitarity to within terms which represent scattering from two different target particles. A systematic development further defines the $n\mathrm{th}$-order optical potential such that unitarity is satisfied to within scattering from $n+1\mathrm{}$ different target nucleons.
