Abstract
We derive the distribution of the time between overflows (losses) for the GI/G/1 loss system in equilibrium. The resulting arrivals-overflows relation can be iterated n times to obtain an approximation (which is exact for exponential service times) for the overflow process from the GI/G/n loss system. Applications to the MG/G/1 and GI/Ek/1 loss systems are presented.
