Abstract
Three alcoholic patients are descr. Each alcoholic is an extremely dependent person without motivation for seeking help. It was found that in each one there was a family member, either a wife or mother, who protected this person whenever he was in difficulty. Attempts were made to interrupt this dependency relationship by dealing not only with the alcoholic but with the protector, in the hope that this interruption would create a motivation for giving up alcohol. Keywords
