Abstract
Ehrlich carcinoma and Sarcoma 180 implanted in the marrow cavity of the tibia induced the formation of visible metastases in distal lymph nodes to a larger extent than when they were implanted in the leg muscles. Differences in survival time or in tumor growth did not explain this difference in metastasis formation. Immediately after transplantation, cancer cells were seen in the blood of animals implanted intratibially but not of those implanted intramuscularly. However, this effect per se was not important because amputation of the leg after the end of the early dissemination completely prevented the development of metastases. Keywords
