Local Regression Models

Abstract
Local regression models provide methods for fitting regression functions, or regression surfaces, to data. Two examples are shown in Figures 8.1 and 8.2 In the first figure, there is one predictor, and the fitted function is the curve. In the second figure, there are two predictors, and the fitted surface is shown by a contour plot. These two examples will be explained in detail later. Figure 8.1 Local regression model with one predictor—fitted curve. Figure 8.2 Local regression model with two predictors—contours of fitted surface.
