Osteosarcoma: Fifteen Years Later

Abstract
IN 1974, companion papers in the Journal discussed the improved disease-free survival among patients with osteosarcoma who had received adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery for the primary tumor. One of the papers described a regimen consisting of vincristine and high-dose methotrexate with leucovorin rescue1; the other discussed treatment with doxorubicin.2 The accompanying editorial praised the results of these two studies, and the earlier findings of Sutow et al.3 (who employed a four-drug combination regimen) by saying that they "not only represent a milestone in the treatment of this disease but also hold great promise for the future management of some . . .
