Remarks on the genesis of flints

Abstract
Concludes that flints of the type associated with the chalk facies of the upper Cretaceous in Europe are synsedimentary in origin, and represent the product of local silicification of the surface of newly deposited limestone on the floor of a warm shallow sea in intervals of nondeposition or partial emergence, probably as a result of biochemical processes.
