Abstract
Hemicholinium-3 was administered into the left ventricle of dogs and 4 hours later the left and right caudate nuclei, thalami, hippocampi and amygdala were dissected out. The specific activity of the enzyme CTP-phosphocholine cytidyltransferase (E.C.2.7.7.15) determined in homogenates of these brain structures was higher by about 40% in the left (ipsilateral) as compared to the right (contralateral) caudate nucleus, thalamus and hippocampus, while, conversely, it was about 70 % lower in the left than in the right amygdala. The selective regional effect of hemicholinium-3 on the synthesis of cerebral cytidine disphosphocholine in vivo was confirmed at the level of the microsomes, for its specific activity was markedly higher in the fraction derived from the left than in that isolated from the right caudate nucleus. This publication has 38 references indexed in Scilit:
