A Corky-Barked Mutation of Hevea brasiliensis

Abstract
Among over 5,000,000 seedlings of H. brasiliensis in Sumatra is a single individual with thick cork on both trunk and branches. The author interprets it as a mutation of specific value, and names it H. brasiliensis mut. granthami (H. granthami) (p. 200). Buddings reproduce exactly the corky bark of the original tree. Most seedlings (from unguarded pollination) are smooth-barked, indicating that the mutational characteristic is probably recessive.
