Abstract
Certain strains of A. coelicolor decompose agar. These strains are also notable for their variability, which was studied in some detail. The observed variations were too complex for detailed analysis, but it was apparent that they were linked up with the process of conidium formation. Variants which could be maintained continuously in the rnycelial state remained stable; certain of these forms at once lost their stability when transferred through the conidial stage. However, transfer through the conidial stage did not necessarily result in variation; some types which always produced conidia in abundance remained stable for extended periods. This publication has 11 references indexed in Scilit:
