Abstract
An alcohol screening service in Geraldton Regional Hospital is described. The CAGE questionnaire was distributed to all patients entering the hospital during the first half of 1986. Ten per cent scored 2 or more, indicating a high probability of alcohol related disorder. Sixty‐two patients requested some form of intervention, although many of the at‐risk patients failed to do so. It is proposed that a more direct personal intervention be introduced. Keywords
