Abstract
Synopsis The paper describes experiments on the behaviour of standard concrete cylinders subjected to fluid pressure applied to their curved surface without the use of an intervening membrane. The results of two sets of tests are given: one set carried out by using water pressure, the other by using nitrogen gas pressure. The fracture pressures of the cylinders are given at each of four different rates of applied pressure, and the significance of the results is stated.
