The effect of a weak magnetic field on stellar oscillations

Abstract
We take further a recent study by Biront et al. of the effect of a weak magnetic field on the pulsations of a star, in the limit in which the magnetic energy of the star is small compared with its gravitational energy. We discover that short wavelength waves of Alfvén type are necessarily generated in the pulsation, and that these dominate the horizontal surface motions, which nevertheless are an order of magnitude smaller than the radial motions. These waves may also provide an important source of damping of the pulsation.
