Abstract
The kinetics of thermal bleaching of Cl2— centers in x‐irradiated KCl–Pb have been studied by measurement of the rate of disappearance of the 3650 Å optical absorption, at constant temperatures in the range 180° to 210°K. Thermal bleaching is second order in Cl2— concentration. A two‐part mechanism is suggested: the first being a diffusion of Cl2— via hopping of the positive hole from point to point through the lattice, the second being the recombination of holes with electrons trapped at lead ions. The activation energy for Cl2— center bleaching in KCl–Pb is 0.53 ev.Keywords
