Abstract
The use of the phrase "chitinous cuticle" for the exoskeleton of arthropods is misleading if not actually fallacious. The chitin content of diff. cuticles varies from 0-60%. It is more reasonable to state that proteins are the basic component of the cuticular membranes.Keywords
