Abstract
"Irritant"agents such as acetic acid, formaldehyde and hypertonlc solution inhibit the development of a local inflammation when given lntraperitoneally, and in a lesser extent when administered by oral route. This effect is probably related to the demonstrated extravasation of fluid and proteins (measured by distribution of Evans Blue) in the peritoneal or gastrointestinal cavity. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (phenylbutazone and indomethacin) do not effect Evans Blue distribution, with the exception of acetylsallcylic acid. Keywords
