Abstract
Complement fixation tests for Kala-azar were performed in humans (6 cases) and dogs (5 animals) naturally infected using a methylic extract of M. butyricum as antigen. Positive results were obtained in all sera, titers ranging from 1:80 to 1:5120. Negative results were obtained from patients suffering from chronic Chagas'' disease, muco-cutaneous leishmaniasis, syphilis, schisto-somiasis mansoni and tuberculoid leprosy. Cross reactions were observed in 40% of lepromatous lepers, in 3 out of 15 cases of active tuberculosis (low titers) and in one case of acute Chagas'' disease. These results are similar to those reported with tubercle bacillus antigen. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
