Assessing the Level of Actualizing of Psychiatric in-Patients: Validity of the Personal Orientation Dimensions

Abstract
The Personal Orientation Dimensions (POD) (Shostrom, 1975) was administered to 91 psychiatric in-patients to assess their level of actualizing as compared with clinically nominated actualizing and "normal" samples. Results showed that differences between the hospitalized sample and the actualizing sample were significant in the expected direction for 12 of the 13 scales. Differences between the hospitalized sample and the nominated normal sample were also significant in the expected direction for 12 of the 13 scales.
