Settling Parameter in Solids Pipelining

Abstract
Current design equations for pipelining solids are based on the settling characteristics solids in water. There is increasing interest in using nonNewtonian homogeneous suspensions of fine solids as the continuous fluid phase to facilitate the transportation of coarse solids. The rheological properties of these fine suspensions can be approximated by the Bingham plastic model. Settling tests demonstrate that the settling characteristics of solids in homogeneous suspensions are significantly different from those in water. A functional relationship between the drag coefficient and rheological properties of Bingham plastic is developed theoretically and tested experimentally.
