Abstract
Among more than several thousand papers dealing with the nesophase, surprisingly low - only 10-15 is the number of the publications dedicated to the solid state of liquid crystals and especially to the various metastable and glassy modifications formed by fast cooling of the mesophase. The glassy state of a liquid crystal was first established for cholesteryl hydrogen phthalate/1/. Later, the formation of metastable state by supercooling of the mesophase has been reported by a number of research workers using X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, molecular spectrosco-Keywords
