Abstract
Variations of the helium/argon ratio of gas bubbles in a mineral spring along a fault zone coincide with fluctuations of areal dilation induced by the earth tide. This observation suggests that deep-seated gases characterized by higher helium/argon ratios are squeezed out by stress preceding an earthquake.Keywords
