Studies on Crystalline Yeast Phosphoglyceric Acid Mutase

Abstract
The mechanism of the substrate inhibition in the yeast PGA mutase reaction has been studied in detail. It is concluded that the case of (a) or (c) is suitable to the mode of this substrate inhibition. It is confirmed that the coenzyme competes with the substrate for the coenzymebinding site on the enzyme; the substrate is a competitive inhibitor of the coenzyme. The Michaelis constant for the coenzyme (Kc) is calculated to be 1.3×10-5 M or less than that.
