Abstract
Sitona humeralis, a pest of lucerne, is a recent arrival in New Zealand. The population studied was of the macropterous form (fully developed wings) as compared to the brachypterous form (reduced wing size). This weevil has 1 generation per year in the South Island of New Zealand. The female reproductive system showed little development for the first 2 months after emergence (January-February), and by early winter (June) 60% of the population had fully developed ovaries. Although the main egg laying period was in early spring, some eggs were laid in late autumn. Keywords
