Planning to Move

Abstract
Individuals with articulated plans for moving to a new environment and individuals lacking such plans produced written descriptions and drawings of their currently inhabited environment. The results of three experiments-involving both cross-sectional and longitudinal investigations-indicated consistently that individuals with highly articulated plans represented their currently inhabited environment in a manner which could be characterized as reflecting significantly greater self-world distancing than did individuals lacking articulated plans.
