Abstract
The indophenol blue method for the determination of ammonia in sea water as proposed by Koroleff and modified by Grasshof and Johannsen is compared with the method by Benesch and Mangelsdorf. It could be demonstrated that the latter method is strongly influenced by the magnesium content of the sea water and has therefore a large salt error. Other disadvantages of the method by Benesch and Mangelsdorf are discussed.
