Abstract
Presentation of Case First admission. A seventy-year-old man entered the hospital because of diarrhea, fatigue and dyspnea.Seven years previously an arteriosclerotic aneurysm of the abdominal aorta had been resected and replaced by a Dacron prosthesis. X-ray films of the chest were normal. Fourteen months later midabdominal pain and diarrhea developed abruptly, and a tender mass was palpable in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. Surgical exploration revealed an abscess cavity behind the terminal ileum; the base of the appendix was ligated, the stump was enfolded, and the abscess cavity was drained.
