Abstract
The electromechanical (EM) coupling in a chiral liquid crystal was first investigated under a white electrical excitation. The mechanical response of the system was detected in the range of 0-20 kHz. The effect of the amplitude of applied voltage on the EM response and that of the sample temperature was investigated. Some of the characteristic spectral components have been identified. The elastic constant attributed to the deformation of smectic layers and the ratio of the EM coupling coefficient to the viscosity have been determined by a new method
