Influence of Fiber Properties on Wrinkling Behavior of Fabrics

Abstract
The recovery of fabrics from bending strains is basically the property which determines whether the fabric will be wrinkle-free and is thus an important factor in the total concept of ease-of-care. The capacity of a fabric to recover from a bending strain depends on a number of physical properties of the single filaments and yarns which compose the fabric. It also depends on geometric construction parameters of the fabric. The present article, one of a series in which studies of these physical properties are described, examines the recovery of the single polymer filament. Calculated recovery for a cylindrical filament shows excellent agreement with experimental values.
