Abstract
To the Editor: Spiegel et al. report in the December 18 issue1 that intraoperative measurements of urinary cyclic AMP during surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism are useful in determining how much parathyroid tissue needs to be removed, and they recommend that these measurements be taken during repeat explorations of the neck for this disorder. Because of their report, we reexamined our data on urinary cyclic AMP during surgery for hyperparathyroidism, 2 and we want to emphasize the possibility of apparent false-positive responses with this approach. Our data generally agree with those of Spiegel et al.1 , 3 In all 12 of our patients with . . .Keywords
