Abstract
This paper gives an overview of the science of crystals of biological macromolecules. The historical background of the field is outlined and the main achievements and open problems are discussed from both biological and physical-chemical viewpoints. Selected results, including data from the authors, illustrate this overview. The perspectives of crystallogenesis for structural biology, but also more general trends, are presented. Keywords
