Abstract
Blood serum protein determinations from 79 hogs indicated a mean normal total protein value of 7.4 g/100 ml. The mean percentages of protein fractions were albumin, 46%; alpha globulin, 20%; beta globulin, 14.5%; and gamma globulin, 19.5%. Zone electrophoresis and biuret methods were used for quantitation. The normal albumin-globulin (A/G) ratio derived from electrophoretic data was 0.88. The results of this study indicate that ionic strength, pH of the buffer and separating medium influence the resolution of serum protein components. Keywords
