Abstract
Using a new fluorochrome-a bis-benzimidazol derivative (Hoechst 33258), we attempted to identify the origin of the Ph1 chromosome. This technique clearly distinguished between the G-group chromosomes (#21, 22), and easily identified chromosomes #1, 9, and 16. In 3 chronic myelogenous leukemia patients, the Ph1 chromosome arose after a deletion in the long arm of chromosome #22, and this deleted part was probably translocated to the long arm of one of the #9 chromosomes. Keywords
