Abstract
Two cases of facial erysipelas in immunologically altered [by prednisone and hydroxyurea] hosts are reported. The unusual presentation with erythema absence in the skin lesion is emphasized. Atypical fever patterns were also noted. In 1 patient, the facial lesion followed the fever onset by 48 h, and in the other, the facial swelling preceded the fever. Various aspects of the patient''s altered host status are discussed in light of the atypical clinical presentation. Facial erysipelas recognition as a potential group A .beta.-hemolytic streptococcemia source in immune-altered hosts is important to ensure rapid and appropriate therapeutic intervention. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
