EFFECT OF 2,4-D ON YIELDS OF MAIZE IN THE SUCCEEDING GENERATION AFTER TREATMENT

Abstract
Single crosses involving 4 inbred lines of corn were sprayed with 400 ppm. or 1600 ppm. of 2,4-D at 3 stages of plant development. The effect of these spray treatments on yields of grain in the succeeding generation was detd. Yields of some hybrid combinations were reduced more than others. The earliest time of appln. was more deleterious than sprays applied at tasseling or after pollination. The yield reductions observed were in considerable part due to reductions in stand.
