Abstract
The site of origin of spontaneous and induced repetitive discharges was investigated in human subjects. Ischemia was produced by pneumatic cuffs on the arm and forearm. Surface electrodes produced bipolar stimulation of the ulnar nerve of 0.5 msec. duration and coaxial needle electrodes recorded action potentials. When the upper of 2 cuffs on the arm was released, repetitive discharge arising in the post-ischaemic area of the nerve was observed in the 1st dorsal interosseous muscle. The peripheral origin of the discharge was supported by a xylocain block of the nerve in the ischaemic area, which did not abolish it.Keywords
