Abstract
The distribution and roles of the microtubule and microfilament networks in the mouse egg following fertilization are described. The role of the chromosomes in the control of the egg cytoskeleton organization is discussed and a model for polar body formation proposed. Finally we describe the changes occurring in the pattern of proteins synthesized during this period, these being discussed in relation to cell cycle events and to changes in cytoskeleton organization. Keywords
