Abstract
The acute toxicity of ozone was strikingly enhanced if animals, during exposure to non-injurious levels of ozone, are concurrently subjected to intermittent exercise. As the present experiment demonstrated a significant effect of the pollutant peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN) upon the O2 uptake only when the subjects were exposed to the additional stress of exercise, it is suggested that investigators who study the problem of the effect of atmospheric pollutants upon the respiratory efficiency of man include the phase of exercise in their experimental design. Keywords
