Abstract
Using a 42-MeV beam, the angular dependence of the excitation probability for exciting the first state in has been determined. The energy dependence of the same quantity was determined by means of an beam. From these data, the quadrupole moment of the first state was determined, as well as the reduced transition probability . The two sets of data are consistent with each other and with particle-coincidence experiments of several other groups. A detailed account of the experimental techniques and the method of evaluation is given.
