PRECIPITINS IN BLASTOMYCOSIS

Abstract
The testing of serum for precipitins in blastomycosis is a relatively simple precedure. This test will produce a higher yield of positive reactions in proved cases than will the complement-fixation test. Inasmuch as both tests produce a high number of cross reactions with other fungal diseases, the diagnosis of blastomycosis must depend upon the demonstration of B. dermatitidis. However, despite these deficiencies, the precipitin reaction is a useful procedure in the study of blastomycosis.
