Abstract
Measurements have been made of the steady-state magnetization of a tin cylinder in the presence of an external magnetic field and with an externally supplied current at the transition to superconduction. In accord with earlier work in Germany, a longitudinal flux in excess of that caused by the external field is observed for certain combinations of external field and current. The dependence of the effect on the external parameters is given and it is shown that the metal is not in the pure superconducting state. No satisfactory theory for the effect has been found, but some numerical relationships have been computed. Keywords
