Abstract
The trichomonads (T. gallinae) isolated from the mouths of 4 domestic pigeons and one peregrine falcon were used as strains in determining variation in virulence of strains of this parasite for clean pigeons (Columba livia). Five series of 5 comparable birds each were used. Four of the 5 inoculated with strain I died. None of the 5 pigeons receiving strain II showed any gross pathology. Strains III, IV, and V were roughly intermediate, generally causing caseation, which not infrequently ended in death. Strains of T. gallinae, then, vary markedly with respect to virulence for domestic pigeons.
