Abstract
The paper describes a theoretical and experimental investigation into the effect of imperfections on the buckling load of an elastic structural system. The theoretical analysis makes use of the concept of generalized coordinates. The theory indicates that, in general, small imperfections may have an appreciable effect on the critical load. The experimental results confirm the predicted theoretical behavior. Keywords
