Abstract
A 32-layered new polytype of cadmium iodide designated 32H has been discovered. The unit-cell dimensions for these are a = b = 4.24 Å and c = 107.97 Å. The detailed atomic structure has been worked out and its zig-zag sequence is found to be (22)5321123. In syntactic coalescence with this polytype, a 4H basic polytype exhibiting considerable one-dimensional disorder was found. Evidence and arguments have been advanced to show that these polytypes have been found as a result of the layer-transposition mechanism. Keywords
