Abstract
The intestinal mycoflora of 154 vervet monkeys (Cercopithecus aethlops) were tested, using separate sampling from small and large intestines. 222 yeasts were isolated from both intestines with a total yeast indices of 0.61 and 0.83 for the small and large intestines respectively. Candida albicans was the most frequently isolated yeast with a finding of 63.6% among the total number of intestinal isolates. None of the other yeasts was of a significant value quantitatively. Comparatively speaking the large intestines were found to have many more yeasts and a higher incidence of C. albicans than did the small intestines. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
