A SEPARATION MECHANISM IN THE LARGE INTESTINE OF EQUINES

Abstract
The contents of the right dorsal colon of donkeys and ponies were found to contain higher concentrations of nitrogen, small particles and polyethylene glycol than the contents of the distal colon. These findings suggest that fluid containing small particles, especially microorganisms is preferentially retained in the dorsal colon. Key words: Separation mechanism, large intestine, equines
