Food Habits of Families in the Eastern Health District of Baltimore in the Winter and Spring of 1943

Abstract
Records of the amt. and frequency of the use of selected foods during 1 wk. periods Jan.-Feb. and Apr.-May in 943 white families representing the wage-earning population included data on the use of milk, vegetables, meat, eggs and butter. Based on age of housewife, the greatest % of "unsatisfactory" ratings was found in the households of older groups, but the use of specific foods varied greatly and food records for particular time periods cannot be considered typical of family food habits. The rationing of processed foods, meats, and fats, began in the interval between the 2 surveys but did not materially alter food habits.
