Abstract
New accurate narrow-band photoelectric measurements of H α in 218 G, K stars are listed. The band-width was 10.6 Å. The data are discussed with reference to earlier observational and theoretical work on H α in late-type stars by Peat (2), and substantially different population characteristics are found in the new observations. If individually accurate measurements of the strength of a strong absorption line are to be obtained by this method, it is important that a sufficiently narrow band-width be used.
